Iuka’s founding date is 1852, but her unique history began long before then as the home of the great Chickasaw Indian Nation. Chickasaw Chieftain, Iuka, enjoyed the healing Spring waters; and indeed the Iuka Springs became legendary, even winning a medal at the World’s Fair in 1904. Iuka was built chiefly a resort area until its railroad was built in 1857. People still flock to this great recreational area to enjoy Pickwick Lake and two State Parks. Iuka was the setting of the major Civil War conflicts, the Battle of Iuka and the Battle of Eastport.
